Cantilever House

Our clients for the Cantilever House project had a life-long goal of living in a modern home and we were happy to be involved. Located in a suburban subdivision, our Cantilever home celebrates modern architecture with clean lines and a refined materials palette. Although a portion of the home is 2-stories, due to its flat roofs, it does not dominate the site like the neighboring houses with their massive roof structures. The second floor charcoal gray box which houses the bedrooms, slides out off the first floor spaces, cantilevering over the lower level and creating a unique front yard feature element where a hole has been cut in the second floor roof to direct light down into a garden space below.
The main home is connected to the garage by a covered outdoor room, with a decorative screen wall to provide privacy from the street and to create the outdoor dining space adjacent to the pool. By shifting the second floor box forward on the site, a second level outdoor patio space has been created off the back of the home overlooking the pool. The walls opening to the private courtyard space surrounding the pool are clad in floor to ceiling glass. Everything emphasizes horizontal lines in the design, from the shapes of the boxes, to the design of custom cabinetry within. This home will be commencing construction in Spring of 2013.
